New Hobart Center for Foodservice Sustainability Provides Leadership and Counsel on Sustainable Design Efforts and Innovation
Troy, OH – September 19, 2007 – Hobart has launched the Hobart Center for Foodservice Sustainability (HCFS) to provide thought leadership and counsel on sustainable design efforts and innovation for the foodservice industry. Designed as a resource hub, the HCFS offers forums allowing foodservice and food retail operations, architects, designers and consultants to collaborate with Hobart in developing new sustainable design ideas and solutions while building economic value for the end-user.
The HCFS will be led by four Fellows: Richard Young, senior engineer/director of education, Food Service Technology Center; Rick Cartwright, vice president and general manager of retail systems, ITW Food Equipment Group; Michael Berning, principal, Heapy Engineering LLP; and John Turenne, founder and president of Sustainable Food Systems. These individuals are established experts in sustainability and are charged with fostering new thinking and approaches to sustainable design solutions.
“Hobart has made a commitment supporting sustainable design efforts through continued research and development,” said Cartwright. “We hope through the sustainability knowledge gained with the HCFS, we can help the food retail locations and foodservice facilities we serve be more efficient and more profitable.”
Grant Established to Generate Sustainability Ideas
The Hobart Center for Foodservice Sustainability grant has also been created to spur idea generation. The individual or company with the best-executed foodservice sustainability project of the year will be awarded a $5,000 grant to invest in additional sustainability efforts. Applicants can enter online by submitting a case study of 10 or fewer pages demonstrating how their program addresses sustainability challenges such as reducing energy/water use; reducing wastewater or solid waste; or implementing Farm-to-Fork programs or other combined programs.
The HCFS grant will be awarded at the 2007 Greenbuild Expo in Chicago, IL, November 6-9, 2007. The individual and/or company honored will be selected to join the HCFS Fellows leadership and assist in future initiatives.
