Meet Hobart’s LEED-accredited professionals at NAFEM.
Troy, OH – September 19, 2007 – Three Hobart executives who have earned LEED® Accredited Professional status from the United States Green Building Council (USGBC) will share strategies and process insights at the Hobart Booth #1639 during the North American Association of Food Equipment Manufacturers (NAFEM) Show. Interactive demonstrations of Hobart’s sustainability solutions will be provided by Jenni Bair, LEED-AP, marketing manager for food retail; Kimberly Greenwood, LEED-AP, marketing manager for higher education; and Kevin Woods, LEED-AP, marketing manager for K-12 schools.
LEED—Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design—is the nationally accepted benchmark for the design, construction and operation of high-performance buildings. The program provides tools and metrics to promote a whole-building approach to environmental sustainability in site selection, water use, energy efficiency, materials and indoor environmental quality. Visitors at the NAFEM Show October 11-13, 2007 can consult with Hobart’s LEED-accredited professionals to discuss sustainability challenges and opportunities in the foodservice industry.
“Sustainability is a challenge for more and more of our customers, and NAFEM is a great opportunity to share some strategies for making good business decisions,” said Sarah Puls, vice president of brand marketing for Hobart. “Hobart is committed to helping our customers operate their business more efficiently and more cost-effectively.”
To earn LEED accreditation, applicants must pass a rigorous test in the strategies and objectives of sustainable design. As LEED-accredited professionals, Hobart executives support a variety of customers, including architects, consultants, nutrition professionals, and store planning and management professionals, as they develop operations that contribute to the facilities being environmentally responsible and cost-effective.
In 2006, Hobart became the first full-line commercial food equipment maker to join USGBC, a non-profit organization of companies, architectural firms, contractors and others committed to promoting the design, construction and manufacturing of buildings and equipment that are environmentally responsible, profitable and healthy places to live and work.
Engineering food equipment around the long-term cost of ownership has given Hobart a track record with equipment that conserves resources. In 2005, the company introduced the Opti-Rinse™ System to its warewasher line. This proprietary technology can save more than 50 percent of the water needed to sanitize a rack of dishware, saving not only water costs but also the associated sanitary sewer charges and the cost of heating the water. The LXi undercounter, AM Select door-type and C-Line conveyor warewashers have earned the ENERGY STAR® and are among the most resource-efficient warewashers available. The company’s Traulsen line has more than 100 ENERGY STAR rated refrigerators and freezers, signifying Hobart and Traulsen equipment meet the strict energy-saving and water-saving criteria set by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Department of Energy. Hobart’s WastePro Pulper reduces solid waste up to 88 percent, which not only decreases the amount of material headed to local landfills, but also reduces hauling and labor costs. Recycling 95 percent of the water used makes WastePro just as budget-friendly as it is environment-friendly.
