Standards for Sustainability
USGBC: Sustainable design is green in more ways than one.
Formed in 1993, the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) had a mission: to promote
the design and construction of buildings and facilities that are environmentally
responsible, profitable and healthy places to live and work.
It is a non-profit organization of companies, architectural firms, contractors and
others committed to healthy building practices, and the creator and custodian of
the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rating System.™
In 2006, Hobart was proud to become the first food equipment manufacturer to join
the USGBC. We share the organization’s emphasis on the cost savings and enhanced
productivity that come from sustainable design. The USGBC provides the necessary
economic incentives for businesses and government agencies to consider and even
mandate "green buildings." These are the economic rewards that help fuel the sustainability
movement.
